Hemp--The Facts

What is Hemp?

Hemp is a part of the Cannabis Sativa family, which has historically been sought for its seed and fiber production. Hemp is considered one of the most useful plants known to humans and is considered the oldest and strongest natural fiber. Hemp, also called industrial hemp, provides manufacturers with alternatives that are environmentally friendly, such as: food, Jewellery, clothing, fuels, and much more. Hemp can even be used to make bioplastics, which can both be recyclable and biodegradable. This makes hemp a great choice for both human and pet products. For instance, Hemp 4 Paws offers a variety hemp products from tinctures, to creams, to collars. Also, Hemp Heal offers great products for you, such as creams, gummies, and tinctures.

Benefits of Hemp:

Hemp seeds are packed full of nutrition. The edible seeds contain about 30% oil and are a source of protein, fibre, and magnesium. When the seeds are pressed a very high-fatty oil is produced. This oil is high in both omega-3 and omega-6, and contains vitamin E. However, the protein content is low in hemp seed oil. But, if the seeds are processed into a powder with a large amount of fat removed, then a high protein low fat powder is produced. Both Hemp 4 Paws and Hemp Heal use products made from hemp seed oil.

Hemp also contains valuable compounds called Cannabinoids (such as CBD), which research is proving to have promising impacts on human and pet health. Hemp plants produce their own cannabinoids, specifically called Phytocannabinoids, which can positively impact human’s/Pet’s Cannabinoid system, specially called Endocannabinoids.  Humans and Pets have located throughout their body Cannabinoid receptors, which help to regulate naturally occurring processes. The Cannabinoids that hemp produces, specially CBD, bind to these receptors and help to regulate these naturally occurring processes. There are various kind of Cannabinoid receptors in Pets, such as CB1 receptors and CB2 receptors.

CB1 receptors are situated throughout the Central Nervous System, and can influence the: brain, lungs, vascular system, muscles, gastrointestinal tract and reproductive organs.

CB2 receptors are situated throughout the Peripheral Nervous System, and can influence the: spleen, bones, skin, immune cells, liver and pancreas.
