Feeding Guidelines Dog Food

This is simply a guideline, and every pet is different. Watch your pet’s weight and adjust amounts accordingly.

25 lbs. - 0.5 lbs food/day (8oz/1 patty)

50 lbs - 1.0 lbs food/day (16oz/2 patties)

75 lbs - 1.5 lbs food/day (24oz/2.5 patties)

100 lbs - 2.0 lbs food/day (32oz/4 patties)

  • A rule of thumb is to feed a mature dog 2% of ideal body weight. Puppies and young dogs should eat about 5% of their body weight. Puppies, like all other young things, grow in spurts, and feeding should be adjusted constantly, feeding more during growth.
  • Keep an eye on weight gain and loss and adjust food intake accordingly. Depending on age, activity level, and breed, some dogs may need more food and often seniors need less. Dogs with higher metabolism may need more food as well.
  • You should use the ‘rib test’ often. Being able to readily feel your dog’s ribs, but having some flesh on them is ideal.
  • Small Breeds are considered puppies generally until they are 1 years old or until done growing, medium to large breed dogs are considered puppies until 2 years old or until they are done growing
